To my colleagues in this wild profession known as software development - one of the most exciting, demanding, crazy, and ultimately rewarding ways to make a living... and... also to my family and friends,
Today marks my 63rd birthday, another milestone in this remarkable earthly adventure filled with many ups and downs, triumphs and challenges alike. Yet through it all, I can truly say that I have been blessed far more than I could ever have asked for, and certainly more than I deserve.
As it is written in the biblical book of Ecclesiastes, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens." With that in mind, today I announce my retirement (full-time, at least) from this wild profession for which I have spent the past 27+ years... a career that I can honestly say I have genuinely enjoyed, even through the craziest projects and despite some of them being in less-than-perfect organizations.
As I begin the process of winding down my involvement in most of the ongoing efforts and bidding those clients a fond farewell, I will remain involved in a select few that I especially enjoy and will continue contributing to and improving, for some time to come.
No successful career happens alone or in a vacuum, and mine is certainly no exception. There are so many people I'd love to thank, but far too little space here to do justice to everyone individually. Please know, however, that I am forever grateful to all who have led, guided, encouraged, and mentored me throughout this journey. And to those who have shown me exceptional kindness, patience, generosity, and grace along the way, I especially appreciate and cherish everything you've done for me... you know who you are.
Take good care everyone, and may the Lord continue to bless you all.
